Long time readers will know I am all about natural health, healing and prevention here.
I will happily talk about superfood drinks until the cows come home.
At which point I will gladly use their milk to make some delicious kefir.
But, every now and then, there is a discovery made in the pharmaceutical world that makes you stand up and take notice.
And this one made me do just that.
There is a lot yet to be determined, and I mean A LOT, but the potential here is very exciting, especially for those who may not have a whole lot of time to wait.
Scientists in Israel believe they may have discovered a way to target cancer cells for elimination in a way that can get rid of them faster than they can mutate and become resistant to treatment.
That is a very big issue when it comes to treating cancer.
Some cancer cells invariably are impacted by the medication, which stands to reason. The medication would not be used if it had no ability to treat cancer.
But other cancer cells can be pretty clever. They have a way of mutating and becoming resistant to that treatment.
Like any cell, they want to survive too.
When they become resistant to treatment, that is when bigger problems can arise with more spreading and less ability to combat the cancer cells due to their heightened resistance.
Anyway, this is just a layperson’s description. Talk to a cancer specialist if you want the real low-down.
Back to the scientists’ potential discovery.
Their strategy is to use several cancer-targeting peptides simultaneously, rather than just one (as is a common practice), along with a strong peptide toxin that would kill cancer cells.
Using multiple peptides (at least three) is meant to address the mutation problem.
According to Dr. Ilan Morad, CEO of Accelerated Evolution Biotechnologies Ltd. (AEBi), by targeting multiple targeted receptors on the cancer cells simultaneously, rather than one at a time, they significantly decrease the probability that the cancer cells can mutate quickly enough to combat the drug.
“Instead of attacking receptors one at a time, we attack receptors three at a time – not even cancer can mutate three receptors at the same time,” Morad said.
Their discovery, very importantly, is also meant to attack the cancer stem cells, which often escape the grasp of traditional cancer treatments. This often leads to big problems down the line for the patient.
“If it does not completely annihilate the cancer, the remaining cells can start to get mutations again, and then the cancer comes back, but this time it is drug resistant,” Morad said.
If they are able to pull of a safe treatment that can attack cancer cells faster than they can mutate and eliminate the stem cells as well to prevent further mutation, you could be looking at one of the greatest discoveries of our time.
Oh, and they believe it will be effective in patients after only a few weeks of treatment.
These are obviously very bold claims that can generate a lot of excitement.
Such is the desperation felt by many who have been diagnosed with cancer, know someone who has, or are just trying to avoid it themselves.
It can feel lonely, hopeless and helpless to those going through it, as well as their loved ones.
I don’t know if their discovery will ever come to fruition. I don’t know if they will be able to replicate their results in humans. And I don’t know if it will be found to be safe.
Time will tell. Although they believe they can prove this quickly, it may be a long road.
That is why I have created this site, to share with you what steps the current scientific literature says we can take right now to help us prevent this horrible disease, and many others.
Much of what we have learned centers around the fact that we are what we eat, and that superfoods are really important.
Not to mention proper exercise, limiting exposure to toxins, stress management and more that are readily available at our fingertips.
